Our Story, Our Commitment

Nestled in the tranquil landscape of North-Central Wyoming, Medicine Lodge State Park and Archaeological Site is a treasure of natural beauty and profound history. We are the Friends of Medicine Lodge, a dedicated 501(c)3 non-profit organization of volunteers passionate about preserving and enhancing this special place for all who visit.

Our group was formed by individuals who share a deep connection to the park and a common goal: to ensure its resources are protected and its stories are told for generations to come. We believe that by working together, we can make a significant impact on the future of this unique corner of Wyoming.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to support Medicine Lodge State Park by enhancing its natural, cultural, and recreational resources. We aim to enrich the overall visitor experience through dedicated marketing, advocacy, education, and fundraising efforts.

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Education

We are committed to developing and supporting educational programs that illuminate the rich archaeological history and diverse ecosystems within the park.

Advocacy

We serve as a strong voice for the park, championing its needs and promoting its value to the wider community and decision-makers.

Fundraising

We raise essential funds to support critical projects, from trail maintenance and habitat restoration to facility upgrades that might otherwise go unfunded.

Meet and Join Our Board of Directors

Kristi Robison

President

Kristi Robison, IGP is the founder of Paintrock Consulting, a Microsoft Partner, and a recognized leader in information governance, AI readiness, and Microsoft 365 strategy. She is an international speaker and advises global enterprises on Information Governance, AI, and GRC. Kristi loves Medicine Lodge State Park because it serves as a humbling reminder that there have been over 10,000 years of documented human history in this valley that she’s fortunate to call home.

Margaret White

Vice-President

Margy White was born in Cheyenne Wyoming and graduated from Cheyenne Central High School. Ms. White received her Bachelor’s degree and Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Wyoming. Ms. White started her legal career at the Attorney General’s office and then became Deputy Secretary of State for Wyoming. In 1997, Ms. White served as Chief of Staff for the U .S. Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement in Washington D. C. Ms. White returned to Cheyenne in 2001 where she engaged in the private practice of law until 2021. Upon her retirement from private practice, Ms. White was selected as the Executive Director of the Wyoming Board of Parole. Ms. White has volunteered for the March of Dimes, Red Cross, cathedral of Saint Mary’s and other charities.

John Laughlin

Secretary

Mr. Laughlin was born in Portland, Oregon, to two Iowans who relocated back to Iowa when he was 5 years old. John escaped the Midwest nearly32 years ago and settled in Wyoming where he eventually attended Graduate School at the University of Wyoming, earning a Master's Degree in Anthropology. Prior to Graduate School, he spent two years serving in the Peace Corps stationed in the archipelago nation of Vanuatu, and more specifically, on the island of Erromango. Mr. Laughlin has worked for the Office of the Wyoming State Archaeologist, the State Historic Preservation Office, and the Wyoming Department of Transportation's Environmental Services Program.

Mary Mitchell

Bookkeeper

Mary Mitchell provides nonprofit financial services to various organizations in the Mountain West. Prior to focusing on the financial side of nonprofits, she facilitated and managed environmental programs for many organizations and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. As a Wyoming resident, she is circling back to focus working with organizations that educate families and children about the earth and sky, and the people whose history is tied to the land.

Heather Jolley

Park Superintendent

Heather Jolley is the Park Superintendent of Medicine Lodge State Archaeological Site in Hyattville, WY. Heather began her career with Wyoming State Parks at Medicine Lodge in April of 2021. She earned a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Oregon State University and moved to Wyoming after being a Park Ranger at Valley of Fire State Park - Nevada. Heather loves the variety of landscapes within the Big Horn Basin and enjoys most outdoor activities. She took an intro to flyfishing class in Utah a few years ago and has not looked back. Heather has traveled across the western states, visited New Zealand and the Bahamas for fly fishing adventures.

Treasurer

We currently have a Treasurer vacancy! This volunteer position is a chartered member of our Board of Directors. This role can be based anywhere in Wyoming, and consists of 45-60 minutes on the first Thursday of each month for our virtual Board Meetings. You would prepare our monthly Treasurer's report, file our annual 990-N e-postcard, and manage Quarterly State of Wyoming Excise Tax reporting. If you love Medicine Lodge and are looking for a way to contribute to the park in a meaningful way, this just might be it!
